RxAdvanced: Antimicrobial Stewardship

The nation’s hospitals and healthcare systems are focused on setting and following best practices for treating infectious diseases through effective management of antibiotics. Multidisciplinary healthcare teams across the U.S. acknowledge that highly trained pharmacists are key leaders in their antimicrobial stewardship efforts.

Through interactions with clinicians and daily work routines, pharmacists are uniquely poised to monitor patients and make recommendations that can influence antimicrobial stewardship.

From effective dosing strategies to alternative therapies that prevent antibiotic resistance, pharmacists with expertise in infectious disease share insights that help healthcare institutions of all sizes deliver a high standard of patient care through antimicrobial stewardship.

TRC Healthcare designed the RxAdvanced: Antimicrobial Stewardship training to help pharmacists fulfill this important role.

What to Expect from RxAdvanced: Antimicrobial Stewardship

Your pharmacy staff may be hindered by a limited headcount, or by a lack of formal training in infectious diseases. In any setting, RxAdvanced: Antimicrobial Stewardship gives 11.5 hours of ACPE-accredited training that prepares pharmacists to be effective leaders and/or team members within your pharmacy’s antimicrobial stewardship program.

Developed by practicing pharmacists with infectious disease expertise, this series of 11 self-guided, interactive courses shares comprehensive recommendations and research that can help pharmacies meet national standards of excellence that aim to appropriately utilize antibiotics and improve patient outcomes. Pharmacists can complete each course within the program online at their convenience 24/7.

In this 11-part program, your pharmacists will learn:

  • Explore a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to all aspects of antimicrobial stewardship
  • Determine how to implement a compliant plan for antimicrobial stewardship
  • Study best practices and the newest evidence-based research for treating and preventing common and/or novel antibiotic-resistant infections
  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of all types of infections, from the skin and respiratory systems to the bones and joints
  • Discover diagnostic opportunities and learn how to assess patterns of infection within a local population

Key Benefits of RxAdvanced: Antimicrobial Stewardship

Improve patient outcomes. As trained experts in the recognition, treatment, and prevention of infection, pharmacists who complete this program can help lower mortality rates, curb the spread of drug-resistant infections, and minimize the unintended consequences of over exposure to antibiotics.

Ease the healthcare burden. Patients with antibiotic-resistant infections have longer stays, more expensive, complicated care, and higher readmission rates. Our training educates pharmacists to improve prescribing practices, reducing excess costs linked to unnecessary use of antibiotics, which in turn relieves the overburdened healthcare system.

Meet or exceed national standards. Your commitment to training pharmacists for participation and leadership in antimicrobial stewardship prepares your hospital to meet regulatory guidelines based on core elements recognized by the healthcare industry as essential for improving patient safety.

Foster organizational change. An effective antimicrobial stewardship program changes the way healthcare professionals work and relate to each other. Pharmacists who gain infectious disease expertise through authoritative sources like TRC Healthcare can adapt behaviors and processes. They serve as catalysts of complex organizational changes that improve patient safety.
