SGLT2 Inhibitors for Patients WithOUT Diabetes

You’ll start to see more patients withOUT diabetes using SGLT2 inhibitors like Invokana  for heart failure or kidney disease. Growing evidence suggests these meds may improve outcomes when added to standard therapy.

Two new studies add to existing data. You’ll see SGLT2 inhibitors suggested in upcoming heart failure and CKD guidelines, and they may get new indications.

Read more in this month’s Pharmacist’s Letter article, including recommendations and what to look out for when dispensing SGLT2 inhibitors for patients without diabetes.

Get answers to these, plus reference a handy chart in this month’s Prescriber’s Letter article.

This Month in Pharmacy Technician’s Letter:
Technician Opportunity to Give Vaccines

More pharmacy technicians will give immunizations to help expand access to vaccines during COVID-19.

Now federal guidance authorizes qualified pharmacy technicians in all states to give childhood vaccines (DTaP, flu, HPV, etc) to kids age 3 to 18, and COVID-19 vaccines to people age 3 and up.

The goal is to offset a drop in pediatric vaccination rates and to help meet potential demand for COVID-19 vaccines.

This is a BIG opportunity for pharmacy technicians. Get more info about giving vaccines, including what to expect and how to get trained, plus a tutorial called The Basics of Immunization and Vaccines in this month’s Pharmacy Technician’s Letter article.
