American Journal of Clinical Oncology: Clinical Utility of a Blood-based Protein Assay on Diagnostic Colonoscopy Referrals for Elevated-risk Colorectal Cancer Patients in Primary Care
In a follow-up study to “Primary care variability in patients at higher risk for colorectal cancer: evaluation of screening and preventive care practices”, primary care physicians who ordered a new blood-based protein assay under study were 3.88 times more likely to refer the patient for a diagnostic colonoscopy. This provided evidence of clinical utility that was leveraged to obtain coverage.
